Pictured here is the tallest (recorded) person in history, Robert Wadlow. This family photo was taken in 1939. Wadlow was just 21-years-old at the time and standing at a height of 8 ft 8 in. He actually grew 4 inches within the last 3 years of his life– for a total of 8 feet 11 inches tall at the time of his death in 1940. This particular genetic abnormality, referred to as "Gigantism," rarely allows those afflicted to live a full life. This is because the heart and organs also enlarge and simply cease to function as they should at a certain point.
